I never really liked “Kanashimi Twilight” … but this version is awesome. Not posted to YouTube because Defstar Records will undoubtedly invoke the much-dreaded DMCA-hammer and possibly have my entire account revoked. For the record, I’m not buying anything from Defstar again.
Semi-requested by Mars. I had the toughest time with this one. It was practically impossible to get a decent vocal rip out of “Uwasa no SEXY GUY” … this was the best I could do. It still has audible instrumental residue; hopefully it’s not distracting.
That album is still in progress, but for those of you who’ve enjoyed my remixes, I’ve assembled all of my publicly released mixes (and a few more) into three volumes for easier downloading.
The tracks are ordered by when I finished them, not when I released them. The four tracks in blue were not previously released.
If you’re just starting to listen to these, I would recommend starting with Volumes 2 and 3 (or the last four tracks of Volume 1). Much of Volume 1 is terrible, because I was just starting out at that point (“Khan no Dance Site” was my first remix).
Sorry for not updating in a month. Here’s another batch of remixes. Most of them have been sitting around collecting dust and have been heard only by the folks who frequent Wotachat. But now they’re public, and you can enjoy them if you haven’t heard them before (or even if you have).
I apologize for the tacky method of posting the audio files on a separate audio repository; I plan to move everything to my own server, but unfortunately that server is currently dead and needs to be repaired. So I’ll have to make do with this for now…
Gachinko de Jirushi no Oomori Song – Interesting fact. This mixes together Suzuki Airi’s earliest single (as a member of 4KIDS) and her newest single (as a member of Buono!).
Gachinko de Honto no Jibun Song – Same as the above, but with “Honto no Jibun” vocals as well.
Mikan no Kaori Dance. – This was going to be on the album, but was displaced by another track (to be revealed).
Balalaikattarouze! – Say that ten times fast.
Yeah! Meccha Hinamatsuri! – Festive.
Hana Koero Pu~n! Rakuten Eagles – Baseball and trigonometry! A perfect combination.
Minihamuzu no Monkey Dance – Hamsters, monkeys … same difference.
I’m pleased to announce that the long-awaited remix album is now in … post-production? Something like that. Will be out soon, hopefully. In the meantime, I’ve racked up a bucketload of additional remixes, so I’ll be releasing a bunch of them shortly.
Also, I’ve finally figured out how to turn an audio file, a text description, and a background image into a video on the command line. Yay! No more wasting 15 minutes struggling through a GUI to do something that’s not actually video editing at all. This process took only 5 seconds when I ran it on the command line. And the general idea could also be applied to dubbing a PV with an audio file.
Here’s what I did using Ubuntu 8.04 and the ffmpeg and convert utilities. Configure as you wish; your system may vary.
“Hana wo Pu~n” and “Ai~n! Dance no Uta” seem to consistently rank among people’s lists of the worst Hello! Project songs ever, or at least I get that impression.
So, I thought, innocently, why not put them together for a doubly dissonant disasterpiece?
:-O
Listen at your own risk.
I mean it. This monster is not one to be reckoned with lightly. It will warp your mind. It will steal your sanity. It will withdraw funds from your bank account without your authorization and offer up all your personal possessions for sale on eBay.
Here’s another one from the Department of Uncanny Similarities:
The vocals of “Dschinghis Khan” and “Honto no Jibun” on top of the instrumentals of “Genki Jirushi no Oomori Song”.
Now with a PV! Is it just me or are the kids wearing the same yellow clothes as the ones in the “Dschinghis Khan” PV? Uncanny.
Not only do the tracks match up nicely musically; the lyrics are also thematically similar.
The scary thing is that this took me only about an hour and a half to make and required very little editing. The only editing I did was extracting the vocals, breaking the vocal tracks into segments, aligning the segments, adjusting the relative volume, and raising “Honto no Jibun” by a half-tone and slowing it down from 143 bpm to 140 bpm. “Dschinghis Khan” and “Genki Jirushi no Oomori Song” are left pretty much intact; their (identical) tempo and chord progressions fit together rather eerily, with only a little dissonance.
And then there’s the surreal experience of listening to Airi, Maasa, and Risako (as 3/4 of 4KIDS) in 2002 chanting in the background at the same time their 2007-2008 selves are singing…
Oh, and the PV. The coincidences between the lyrics and the PV are mind-warping: the building in the background lighting up during “kira kira kagayaku goden” (sparkling palace); the LET’S GO backdrop during “go brother”; Kago holding out her hands during “te wo kazase” (hold out your hands); Kago jumping in the air during “tobikoete” (jumping)…
