Semi-requested by Mars. I had the toughest time with this one. It was practically impossible to get a decent vocal rip out of “Uwasa no SEXY GUY” … this was the best I could do. It still has audible instrumental residue; hopefully it’s not distracting.

Ki ga Happy Birthday — NEWS × Matsuura Aya

Yes, this is a Johnny’s × H!P mix, requested by misa. I’m afraid I’m not much of a Johnny’s fan. None of their music have grabbed me yet, but who knows? Send me any recommendations you might have … they might end up being mashed with H!P.

Kimagure Ready? — Tommy heavenly⁶ × ikimono-gakari

My first completely non-H!P mix. Alas, this and my two previous Tommy mixes were DMCA’d and taken down from YouTube, by the request of Defstar Records, Inc. I think remixes are fair use, but I don’t really have the resources to fight this in court, and I don’t really care that much anyway. In my opinion, their actions (including taking down pretty much everything that makes use of Tommy february⁶, Tommy heavenly⁶, and the brilliant green recordings) is doing them more harm than good. I happen to own 13 Tf6, Th6, and tbg CDs, and none of them would have been purchased had I not encountered Tommy by chance on YouTube during the summer of 2007. But anyway … these three mixes will still be up here, unless Defstar finds out about them as well.

Requested by pengie. This is my first mashup of two songs having the same title: “Planetarium”. The backing track has been upshifted two semitones.

Tamago love — Shugo Chara Egg! × Perfume

I seem to having good results with Shugo Chara Egg! × Perfume mashups. This one’s also a polyphonic mix preserving the original Perfume vocals from “Puppy love”. They make pleasant background vocals, I think. I can’t wait for Shugo! Shugo! to come out.

It’s always nice to have tracks that match in key, tempo, and title. This pair even have the same exact key change. Amazing coincidence.

Hajimari no Fighter — Shugo Chara Egg! × Perfume

L·O·V·E·L·Y ~Yume Miru Namida Iro~ is especially fitting since Ayaya and Tommy were my introductions to J-pop back in July 2007. I’d heard a few J-pop songs before that, but these two really had me hooked…

Resonant SCREAM+ has a more sensible title than “Resonant Blue”, methinks. And it is quite an appropriate title for this piece.

Hajimari no Fighter has been on repeat on my computer for the last several hours. It took me about 20 minutes to make. I haven’t been keeping track, but this is probably among those mixes that took me the least time to produce. It’s nice when you can get an awesome-sounding mashup with minimal tweaking.

In other news, I’ve started uploading to YouTube again. I stopped doing so last June because I got tired of making videos and uploading them. But now I have a script that takes in an audio file, generates a video for it, and uploads it to YouTube all in one go! No browser or video editor needed. Really convenient. I should make it upload to Mediafire and my audio repository at the same time, too.

For 2009, I’m planning to finish this blasted remix album that’s been in the works since May, do another one (!), and experiment more with polyphonic mixes. A few of the mashups work really well with overlapping melodies; I haven’t tried it on very many, and I haven’t posted any, but polyphonic mashups rock! ^_^ Yay for counterpoint!

And I also want to do more melody-changing mixes, like “Go Girl ~Koi no Watarasebashi~”, which started out as an accident and was nearly thrown away before I decided to salvage it. Pitch-changing can often lead to distorted vocals, so it’s tricky. We’ll see…

I’m also interested in doing more original compositions. Composing and remixing are two different things, and I’ve done way more of the latter than the former.
